"Summer (I'll Be Waiting)" is a "fresh" sounding track, according to my roommate Phil.

Up until this point in my musical journey, my primary interest has been in the 80s. Sure, at times I played Blues or Jazz or even Country, but it always came back to the Melodic Hard Rock of the 80s. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but I've been inclined to try my hand at a new sound.

"Summer" is the embodiment of this idea. It's closer to Pop, or even the Post-Punk genre that is currently dominating the iPods of teens everywhere.

As for the significance of the song, it's basically a song about youth. I will leave the rest for you to interpret, but suffice to say there is a deeper emotional connection to this song for me.

I've uploaded another demo titled "Fire Your God". This instrumental came to me in one of those rare moments of inspiration and I ran with it. I would love to hear it with drums one day, but for now it's just guitar and bass.

The meaning behind the title is this: Sometimes we have an incorrect picture of who God is. If God is indeed good, why do we blame Him for the condition of our lives? I am certainly not suggesting that we all do this, but if we don't know who God is then it's easy to become confused about His nature.

I had this epiphany a couple of weeks ago. As I began to evaluate a particular area of my life, I noticed that my attitudes regarding this subject were incorrect. I was behaving the way I was because I believed that's what God would have me do. I was in a great deal of pain because of my wrong thinking. My understanding of God was flawed.

It's important to remember that God has a good plan for all of us (Jer. 29:11). Perhaps you can begin to identify areas in your life where your thinking has led you down a path you never wanted to go. With God's help, you can get back on track.

I've uploaded a brand new acoustic demo of "Not By A Long Shot". This song is particularly close to my heart, because we all find it difficult and sometimes impossible to live up to an ideal.

There is a great deal of pressure in society today. The pressure to be fit and skinny. The pressure to live up to our friend's standards, whatever they may be. The pressure to please people. The pressure to pay the bills and make rent. When all of these pressures close in on us, it can be very difficult to be happy with ourselves and who God created us to be.

I hope you will listen to the song and be encouraged that although we tend to overestimate what can be done in a year, we underestimate what can be accomplished in 10 years. As long as you continue to trust in God, He will encourage you and lead you on your journey.

This version of "Not By A Long Shot" is reflective of my live sound. In other words, if you were to attend one of my shows today, this is very close to what you would hear. This came out of necessity; previously, I didn't have any music that was a close approximation of my live show. I'm glad that I'm finally able to present something that is.

P.S. If you get a chance, please have a look at my new videos (click here). I have been working with a fantastic videographer, Matt Keay, who has been helping me to get the word out about my music. I'm not sure that the camera loves me, but if nothing else, you will get to see Matt's talents at work.

I recorded quite a few demos in 2007 and in the early part of 2008. "Nightlife", of course, is one of those songs. You could say that it's a bit of a detour from previous material, but as I started taking influence from Electronic music, I would occasionally fiddle around with grooves like this one. Feel free to download it and pass it on to your friends!
